Method for comparing efficiency and system integration potential for biomass-based fuels production pathways

Biomass are seen as an important resource for fuel production in the maritime and aviation sectors. Sustainable biomass, however, is a limited it therefore to utilize efficiently possible. This study developed modelling frame compare performance of various pathways from lignocellulosic biomass. It considers both energy efficiencies processes their potential be integrated into future fossil free systems. The model provides general framework converting experimental results process simulation higher level techno-economic- life-cycle analysis comparable manner. In this six technology three different categories; direct liquefaction, power-to-X, gas-to-liquid, were evaluated. showed that socio-economic perspective investment renewable electricity hydrogen dominating factors. resulted liquefaction options being cheapest most efficient while power-to-X expensive less efficient.
